Frank M. Andel


Frank M. Andel, 88, of First St., Coaldale, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, in the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of the late Agnes (Vargovich) Andel, who died in 1996.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as a guard on the Northeast Extension. He was a former constable in Coaldale.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Uhlar) Andel.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tamaqua.

A 1940 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, he was a member of the Coaldale V.F.W., the Pa. Sheriff's Association and the West Ward Rod and Gun Club, Coaldale.

Surviving are a daughter Ilona, wife of Alan Kerr of Tamaqua; an adopted sister Mitzy; a brother Paul of Gainesville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Dr. Nicole Andel of Coaldale, Joseph Andel and his wife, Pauline, of Tampa, Fla., and Christopher Kerr, and his wife, Crystal, and Amanda Kerr, both of Tamaqua; and two great-grandchildren, Zechariah Wassell and Donovan Calarco, both of Tamaqua.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tamaqua, with the Rev. William Linkchorst officiating. Interment, SS. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Zizelmann-Roche Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.
