Mrs. Eleanor E. (Zlock) Figner, 83, formerly of Coaldale, New York City and Perth Amboy, N.J., died Wednesday (2/11/2009) in Weatherly. She was the widow of Stephen Figner, who died in 1999.

Prior to retiring, she was employed as an operating room nurse at the former Coaldale State Hospital for 29 years. Previously, she had been employed at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Hospital in New York City, N.Y.; at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton; and as a private duty nurse.

Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Planavsky) Zlock.

She was a member of St. John Slovak Lutheran Church, Lansford, where she was an active volunteer.

A 1943 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, she graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing, Philadelphia, in 1946, earning a registered nurse license.

An avid sports fan, she was a member of the Cadet Corps in Philadelphia during her nursing school days, and served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop 162, Coaldale.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne S. and his wife, Jill (markovich) of Coaldale, and David C. and his companion, Janice Kistler of Fogelsville; a brother, Charles Zlock of Doylestown; and two grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Valuch, Walter Valuch and Evan Zlock; and two sisters, Mildred Vilcheck and Christine Phillips.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. John Slovak Lutheran Church, Lansford, with the Rev. Marjorie Keiter officiating. Interment, Grand Army Cemetery, Summit Hill. Call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, August M.
