Paul Bybell

Paul Bybell, 97, of Coaldale, died Monday, Aug. 27, in Coaldale. He was the husband of the late Marie (Sotak) Bybell, who died Feb. 12, 2002.

Prior to retiring, he worked for the Atlas Powder Company in Reynolds; ICI in Wilmington, DE; and Tyler Corporation in Dallas, TX.

Born in Coaldale on Sept. 12, 1920, Paul was a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Matika) Bybell.

A 1938 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1951.

During World War II, Paul was stationed in the Pacific as a member of the U.S. Navy.

Paul was a member of St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church in Coaldale.

He is survived by sons, Daniel Bybell, and his wife, Pamela, of Medford, Mass., and David Bybel of Santa Clara, Calif.; daughter, Paula Reilly of Dallas, Tex; grandchildren, Danica, Grace, Brett, and Xena; and sister, Eve Dempsher of Bethlehem.

Paul was predeceased by brothers, Peter, John, Stephen, Andrew, Gregory, and William.

Services: Panachida, 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, with The Very Rev. James P. Weremedic officiating.
