Paul Sheers
Paul Sheers, 88, of Coaldale, entered into eternal rest Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016 in St. Luke's Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale. He was the husband of Helen (Stafiniak) Sheers. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Sept. 3.
Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Alex and Fevronia Sheers.
He served as Schuylkill County Sheriff for 10 years from 1974 to 1984 and then was elected Schuylkill County Commissioner for 12 years from 1984 until retiring in 1996.
He was a member of St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, Coaldale.
He was also a member of the Russian Club, Lions Club, American Legion, VFW, all of Coaldale, and the Coaldale Fire Company.
Surviving along with his wife are many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by sisters Anna, Rose, Helen, Alice, Mary and Julia; and brothers Dimitri and John.
Service: A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 10, 2016 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, 217 First St., Coaldale, with the Rev. Paul Ropitsky officiating. Interment will be held in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday 9:30-11 a.m. in the Church. A Panachida service will be held Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Donations may be made in his name to the church.
The Sverchek-Blazosky Funeral Home, 340 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
