Sophie Herbert, 87, formerly of Coaldale, entered into eternal rest on
Sunday, Dec. 25, in the Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Schuylkill Haven. She worked on the assembly line at the former Atlas Powder Company, Reynolds.
Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Maxim and Anna (Lorchak) Herbert.
She was a 1948 graduate of the former Coaldale High School. The deceased was a member of St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, Coaldale, where she was a former member of the choir and the "R" Club. She was also a member of the Coaldale Russian Club.
Surviving are two sisters Olga, Macalush of Coaldale and Mildred O'Shura of Sellersville; three brothers, Sal, and his wife, Mary, of Hammonton, N.J. Joseph of Coaldale and John of Camben, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Olga, Helen and Mary; and a brother Dimitri.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, 217 First St., Coaldale, with the Rev. Paul Ropitsky officiating. Interment, parish cemetery, Summit Hill. Call 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the church.
