Ronald A. Mantz

Ronald A. Mantz, 69, of Hauto Valley Estates, Nesquehoning, passed away suddenly Dec. 24, 2014 at St. Luke's Miner Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of Rita Jean (Poshefko) Mantz. Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late Theresa (Paslowsky) Martin and Edward "Dick" Martin, Lansford. He graduated from Coaldale High School in 1962 and Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in 1965, as a Certified Machinist. Ron served in the U.S. Navy for two years, having been stationed in Norfolk, Virgina and did his tour of duty in the Mediterranean. He then served in the Naval Reserve for 25 years.

He previously worked for Bethlehem Steel and was currently employed by Mack Trucks, Macungie.

Ron enjoyed doing yard work and spending hours tinkering with cars in his garage. He loved the beach, traveling, watching Broadway Shows in New York City, eating at diners, drive-ins and dives, and spending time with his family. He was commonly seen on his tractor mowing the lawn, with a cigar in his hand, or walking his dog and greeting neighbors.

A loving son, husband, father and devoted grandfather, he is survived by his father, Dick; his wife Rita; two daughters, the Hon. Lisa Mantz and her husband Steven Kenny, Social Circle, Georgia, and Dana and her husband Kevin "Sean" Brubaker, Summit Hill; a son Gregg Mantz and his wife Jody, Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Taylor, Yusuf, Aliya, Sophie and Grayson; and his faithful dog, Zoey.

He would have celebrated his 70th birthday on Dec. 29 and his 47th Wedding Anniversary on Dec. 30.

Service: Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill. Calling hours are from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Military Interment will follow at Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown.
