Eugene Haspe

Eugene Haspe, 70, of 38 Water St., Coaldale, died Monday in the Lehigh Valley Hospice Center in Allentown. He was the husband of Sophie (Kleckner) Haspe who died in 1963.

He was last employed as a breaker dump man for the former Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company.

Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late Henry and Mary (Bybel) Haspe.

He was a member of St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church in Coaldale.

Haspe served with the United States Army and was a Korean Conflict veteran.

He was a 32 year member of the Coaldale American Legion, the Coaldale Volunteer Fire Company and the Coaldale Russian Club.

The deceased was a 1950 graduate of Coaldale High School.

Surviving are three daughters, Claire, wife of Otis Remington and Jean Huffman both of Coaldale; Elaine Haspe of Hazleton; and three grandchildren.

He was the last member of his immediate family.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Leonard.

The August M. Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale, is in charge of arrangements.
