Steve "Tippy" Tenetylo, 90, of East Phillips Street, Coaldale, died Monday in his home. He was the husband of the late Helen M. (Pavlik) Tenetylo, who died in 2009. A life long resident of Coaldale, he was a son of the late Roman and Mary (Marynycz) Tenetylo. Prior to retiring, he was a heavy equipment operator in the road construction industry, last employed by Lehigh Asphalt of Tamaqua. He was a current member of Coaldale Borough Council. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy's submarine service. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Lansford. A 1942 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, he was a member of the Coaldale American Legion and was instrumental in establishing the Coaldale Veterans Memorial. An avid fan of Indy car racing and Penn State, he was also a member of the WWII Submarine Veterans, Lehigh Valley Chapter, and formerly served on the Panther Valley School Board. Surviving are a son, Steven M. Tentylo and his wife, Machel, of Coaldale; daughters, Susan, wife of Stephen Fegley of Hometown, and Ann Tentylo Krajcir of Nesquehoning; grandchildren, Steven M. Tentylo III and his partner Erica Hettler of Hummelstown, Amy Tentylo and her partner, C.J. Quick of Tamaqua, Joseph Earley of Coaldale, Jake Fegley of Hometown, Ellen Krajcir and Robin Krajcir , both of Nesquehoning; great granddaughter, Olivia Quick of Tamaqua; and a brother, Roman Tenetylo and his wife, Mary, of Harrisburg. Service: Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy, 10 a.m., Thursday, St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Lansford, with the Rev. Peter Donish officiating.
