Leonard Skirkanish, Sr.

AGE: 83 • Manville

Leonard Skirkanish, Sr., 83, died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 4, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Coaldale, Pennsylvania the son of the late Andrew and Anna Skirkanish. He was a resident of Manville, NJ for the past 58 years. Mr. Skirkanish served his Country Honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a blue seal boiler operator at the Johns-Manville Corporation in Manville, NJ for 17 years. He then worked as an engineer at the Princeton Medical Center in Princeton, NJ for 16 years before retiring. Mr. Skirkanish was a member of the Thomas J. Kavanaugh V.F.W. Post #2290 in Manville, NJ. He was a den leader of the Boy Scouts Pack #193 and umpired for M.Y.A.L. little league baseball in Manville, NJ. Mr. Skirkanish enjoyed watching all Pennsylvania sports teams. He was an avid card player and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and the Sands Casino. Mr. Skirkanish was an active member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Hillsborough, NJ. He was a bingo caller for 25 years at the Church and was a member of the Holy Name Society.

He was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Skirkanish and by a sister, Jeanette Schwartz. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary M. Skirkanish of Manville, NJ; his five sons, Leonard Skirkanish, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Manville, NJ, Ronald G. Skirkanish and his wife Gale of Manville, NJ, Gary A. Skirkanish of Manville, NJ, Kenneth M. Skirkanish of Manville, NJ and Jeffrey E. Skirkanish of Manville, NJ; a brother, Robert Skirkanich and his wife Mary Ann of Seymour, Connecticut and a sister, Anna Esuchenko and her husband Frank of Stratford, Connecticut. He is also survived by his grandson, Ronald Skirkanish, Jr.

The viewing will be on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 4 to 8 PM at the Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville, NJ. (908)575-8512 . The Parastas will take place at 6:30 PM during the viewing. The Funeral will be on Friday, May 10, 2013, 9:00 AM from the Ketusky Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 AM Liturgy at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Hillsborough, NJ.
