Obituary - Michael J. Frendak

Michael J. Frendak, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 12, in the St. Luke's Hospice Center, Bethlehem, with his loved ones by his side. He was the husband of the late Joan Ellen (Benyo) Frendak, who passed away on Jan. 3, 2015.

Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Michael and Agnes P. (Derzak) Frendak.

He resided in Lansford from 1965-2014 and spent his last two years in Quakertown.

He was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a regional supervisor for the PA Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services, for 37 years, retiring in 1990.

Upon retiring from the state, he served as a consultant health inspector for the City of Hazelton for 23 years.

Mike was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served with the U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One.

He was a member of CASA (Central Atlantic States Association of Food and Drug Officials); a member and insurance agent for the Ladies Pennsylvania Slovak Catholic Union, where he served as president of Branch 156; and a member of the Coaldale V.F.W. Post.

A 1947 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, he was inducted into the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

The deceased belonged to St. Isidore Catholic Church, Quakertown, and St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford.

Surviving are a daughter, Judith Ann, wife of Dean Miller of Quakertown; two sons, Michael, and his wife, Trisha, of Warrington, and Edward, and his wife, Donna, of Reading and Lake Hauto; five grandchildren, Ali, Jaclyn, Michael, Nicholas and Giuliann; and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore and Joseph.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 124 E. Abbott St., Lansford, with Msgr. Thomas Derzak and the Rev. K.A. Medve officiating. Military graveside service, Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Arrangements by Sverchek-Blazosky Funeral Home, Lansford.
