Community Sing to be Held Thanksgiving (1918)

(Coaldale Observer, Friday, November 22, 1918)

PREPARATIONS MADE FOR AN APPROPRIATE PROGRAM TO SHOW COALDALE'S JOY AND GLADNESS OVER TRIUMPHANT ENDING OF GREAT WORLD WAR

David Phillips, leader of all community singing in this district, in conjunction with a committee of the Coaldale War Chest has arranged an appropriate and excellent program to be held in The Auditorium at 8:00 o’clock Thanksgiving evening.

Mr. William Jones, of Lansford, has kindly consented to lead the singing. Solos will be rendered by his daughter, Miss Sara Jones, Mr. Brinley Edwards, Mr. Al Pascoe, Mr. Edward Boyle, Mr. Hayden Evans and other well known soloists of this and neighboring towns. Other numbers will introduce little Miss Dorothy McElhenney and Miss Mary Phillips in a patriotic sketch. Addresses will be given by Mr. D.G. Watkins, editor of the Lansford Record, and a prominent Four-Minute speaker of Pottsville. Miss Ann Phillips will recite an appropriate selection and then it must be remembered the full meaning of the word Community Sing will be carried out. Everybody is asked and expected to be present and also to join in the singing.

There will be no charge for admission and the occasion offers an opportunity for everybody to get together in a happy community reunion
