Dr. George J. Zebian


Dr. George J. Zebian, 83, of the Gino M. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, formerly of Coaldale, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late George and Helen (Shroba) Zebian.

He received his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University and was a professor of classical languages at Wisconsin State University.

Zebian was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific, Philippine and American theatres.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Theresa Zebian of Coaldale; and a nephew.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Robert.

Dr. George J. Zebian, 83, of the Gino M. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, formerly of Coaldale, ided of natural causes Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Born in Coaldale, Schuylkill County on March 15, 1925, he was a son of the late George and Helen (Shroba) Zebian. He received his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University and was a professor of classical languages at Wisconsin State University. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific, Philippine and American theaters of operation. Survivors: He is survived by his sister-in-law, Theresa Zebian of Coaldale; nephew, Robert J. Zebian of Colleyville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert. Services: private. Burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Arrangements, David J. Boyko Funeral Home, Macungie.
