Joseph M. Holubek Jr.


Joseph M. Holubek Jr., 70, of Hummelstown, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, March 18, following a long illness. His devoted wife, Diane (Frey) Holubek, was at his side.

Born in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, he was a star member of the Marian Catholic High School basketball and baseball teams. He went on to play basketball at Elizabethtown College before attending Thaddeus Stevens Technical School, Lancaster.

After serving in the Army in Stuttgart, Germany, he spent most of his career at Heavy Duty Parts.

He was a member of American Legion Post 314, Lehighton; the Hershey Italian Lodge; and St. Joan Catholic Church, Hershey.

Holubek was inducted into both the Marian High School and Thaddeus Stevens trade School Halls of Fame for his athletic excellence.

He was an avid sports fan, following his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Michele, Debra, and Suzanne; a brother Michael of Northhampton; and a sister JoEllen of Coaldale. "Pop-Pop" will be particularly mourned by his beloved grandchildren, Charlie, Caitlyn and Hunter.

Service: Memorial service 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, Auer Cremation Services of Pa., 4100 Jonestown Rd., Harrisburg. Interment at 2 p.m., Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Contributions in his name may be made to the Kidney Foundation or Hospice of Central Pa.

Note :Joseph M. Holubek was an outstanding basketball player for St, Cyril's and then Marian High (class of 59, I believe). His younger brother, Jerry also went to both schools and died in 2008.
