Thomas R. Richards, 80, of 258 Sixth St., Coaldale, died Monday (June 5) in the Geriatric Center of the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of Agnes M. (Urban) Richards.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by the Borough of Coaldale. He had been previously employed by the former Quartite Lamp Factory, Nesquehoning, and at the former No. 8 Colliery of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company, Coaldale.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Raymond and Irene (Nahf) Richards.

A 1943 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, he was an Army veteran of World War II.

Richards was a 50-year member of the C.H. Berry American Legion Post 173, Tamaqua, and also belonged to the 40 and 8 group of the post. He was a life member of the Coaldale Fire Company, Disabled American Veterans and the Six-County Fireman's Association.

Surviving in addition to his widow are nieces and nephews.

The August M. Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale, is in charge of the arrangements.
