From the Lehighton Times News dated 11 July 2006 LaVerne McLean (Kleckner), 88, of Newark, Del., died Tuesday, July 4, in her home. She taught in Coaldale and Tamaqua schools before moving to Newark in 1959, where she was a French teacher in the Newark School District until retiring in 1980. Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late James and Bertha (Kleppinger) McLean. She was a 1935 graduate of the former Coaldale High School and received a bachelor of education degree from Kutztown State Teachers College and a master's degree in 1966 from the University of Delaware. Surviving are two daughters, Loretta K. Fuller and Diane M. Kleckner, both of Newark; two granddaughters; and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Berger and Zelda Shellhamer; and two brothers, James and Daniel. The Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, Del., is in charge of the arrangements. |
