Nicholas "Mickey" King

Obituary

Nicholas "Mickey" King, 84, of Coaldale, entered into eternal rest Friday in the Skilled Nursing Facility of St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Wash Sr. and Mary Zenzel King.

He was the husband of Nancy Benyo King. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in July of last year.

He was employed as a driver for Mity Fine Bakery, Lansford, and then worked for Stroehmann Bakery, Hazleton, until retiring in 1993. Nicholas was a sergeant in the Army serving with the HQ 3D Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict.

He was a graduate of Coaldale High School, Class of 1949.

He was a member of the Coaldale Russian Club and the Coaldale American Legion Post 170. Nicholas was a member of the King Brothers Orchestra where he played the violin and the trumpet. He also played in the Coaldale Victory Band and played with John Stanky and the Coal Miners. He was a member of St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church, Coaldale.

Mickey was an avid sports fan, following the Minnesota Vikings and New York Yankees but what he enjoyed most of all was following all of his grandchildren's accomplishments.

Surviving, along with his wife, is a daughter, Sandra Zuber and her husband, Christopher, Schnecksville; sons, Nicholas Jr. and his wife, Valarie, Palm Coast, Fla., and David and his wife, Chrissy, Coaldale; brothers, John and his wife, Dorothy, Wash and his wife, Helen, and Russell and his wife, Geraldine, all of Coaldale; a brother-in-law, Cip Vavra, Coaldale; grandchildren, Shannon O'Toole and her husband, Bill, Jennifer Overton and her husband, Sean, Justin King, Zackary King, Ashley Zuber and Eric Zuber; great-grandchildren, Jackson Overton and Maddie and Liam O'Toole; sister, Helen King Vavra; nieces and nephews.

A Divine Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, 217 First St., Coaldale, with the Rev. Ignatius Gauvain officiating. Military graveside service will be held in the Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown. Calling time is from 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the church. Sverchek-Blazosky Funeral Home been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
