Included among the 116 folks whom we expect to attend are:

--1 of the cheerleaders on the following photos;
--but, 0 of the majorettes on the following photos.

LETTERS TO THE SYMPOSIUM’s HEAD STATISTICIAN.
Dear Adam Upp,
I looked in the dictionary and I found these 3 definitions for the word “symposium”:
--“A meeting or conference for discussion of a topic, especially one in which the participants form an audience and make presentations.”
--“A collection of writings on a particular topic, as in a magazine.”
--“A convivial meeting for drinking, music, and intellectual discussion among the ancient Greeks.”
My question to you is: Which of these 3 definitions applies to the First Annual Coaldale Tigers Football “Symposium”?

Dear Kurious in King of Prussia,
To try to determine the answer to your question, we conducted a telephone conference call among the members of our organizing committee. After three hours of intensely trying to determine the answer to your question, we came to the conclusion that we have absolutely no idea; and, furthermore, we can’t even remember why we are calling this a “symposium.” Therefore, we believe it is in your best interest to stop asking us questions like this one; and, you may also find it to be prudent to ignore anything else we may have ever said. We’re old, we’re confused, and we really can’t be held accountable for anything that we may have said in the past, or anything that we may say in the future. But, thanks for asking anyway.
Dear Adam Upp,
In your Jan 21 update, you had a 1958 photo of several Coaldale players. I remember the day that photo was taken. The Quarterback handing off the ball is Tom Surotchak, not Greg Posta as the photo caption says. The player getting ready to receive the ball is, I believe, George McDonald; the guy in front who is blocking is Joe “Moe” Burns; and, the guy with his back to the play and holding the blocking dummy is Jim McCartney. All of the guys in the photo were wearing wool jerseys and canvas pants left over from the 1940s (or earlier).

Dear Observant in Orwigsburg,
Thank you for your great memory. Now, the only question that remains regarding that particular photo is: Where was Greg Posta that day when he was supposed to have been at football practice?
Dear Adam Upp,
I want to share with you one of my fondest memories of Coaldale Tigers football. I remember when I was a little kid, I would go up to the first August practices to do two things: (1) Listen to the sound of the team's cleats on those cement ramps behind the high school, and (2) to watch the gridders. My fondest memory is of the sound of the cleats, which was followed shortly thereafter by the sound of some of the gridders vomiting from the first round of windsprints.

Stuck on Sounds
Dear Stuck on Sounds,
Thank you for sharing that fond memory.
