Celebrates 99th birthday

Florence Kitt, 105 A Rowe Street, Tamaqua, has celebrated her 99th birthday. She was and is the daughter of the late Charles M. and Emily (Jones) Schellhammer of Coaldale, She was one of six children, all of whom are deceased: brothers Charles, William and Ellwood and sisters Annie Fero and Pearl Brooks. She was employed as a clerk at Bright's Department Store and worked at Kiddie Klothes, both in Lansford. She was married for 48 years to the late Richard Kitt of Seek, and lived in Coaldale before moving to Tamaqua in 1967. She has four children: Florence, the wife of Ron Prehoda, Arlington, Va.; William, of Oakton, Va.; Joyce, of Rockville, Md.; and Richard, who is deceased. Florence also has 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
